What's A Great Way To Reach The Gen Y And Millennial Crowd?

Do you need to reach out to young professionals, either as volunteers or as potential donors? Listen to music! Seriously, build a partnership with a band or musical group that has a strong following in your community, and see if they'll take you on as their "cause." Here are just a few of the ways that you can make this a real "win/win":

  • Ask them to wear an item that is tied to your cause, not only while they are performing but when they are out and about. People are sure to notice and ask about it, giving them a perfect opportunity to share the great work that you do.
  • Request a mention from the stage and a direct request for support. You might even convince them to pass the hat or tip jar for you.
  • If you or one of your staff members regularly attend their performances, ask someone from the band to point you out and send people your way for more information.
  • Make a commitment to use the band for your events, and give them credit, links, and exposure in your social media and other newsletters. Just tying your name with a popular local group can make all the difference in the world.
  • Create a cool event together designed to attract a younger crowd and split the proceeds. Most musicians are always looking for new gigs and ways to make some extra cash.
  • Help them promote their CD and create a cause-related marketing campaign where you get a portion of the sales.

These are just a few suggestions. Partnering with a local music group can give you the access to that young "in" crowd that you need!
